A racing cap sits in the seat of a midget racer that Terry Nichols and owner Jim Pursell brought to the Herrin Friday Night Cruise to display for the first time since it had been restored, which had been finished earlier that afternoon. Pursell owns the midget racer, which he said had been sitting in his garage for about 30 years before he finally sent it to Nichols for restoration. Nichols said that to restore the car completely, it took about a year of work. Jim Pursell, who said he has been an avid racing fan since the age of 14, said the car was probably built in the late 30's and like all the midget racers was homebuilt and boasts a 40' Ford V8 60 engine. Terry Nichols, who did the restoration work on the vehicle, said midget racers were all custom made vehicles, mostly constructed out of old Model T parts. Because of how unique the vehicle is, Nichols said finding parts can be difficult.
