The Dominicans took away from the Mercado-Rizal family and their Calamba workers their livelihood as well as the family house (now a govt property under NHI mgmt) as the Inquilino (head tenant) of the friar lands in Laguna, as reprisal of the friars against Rizal's attack on the friars in his writings and novels. At Rizal's time of execution, the Mercado-Rizal family (including Jo Bracken for a while) had moved to Sta. Cruz, Manila while the Laguna workers would join the revolution, under the leadership later of the elder brother, Paciano Rizal.
